Secrets of Award-Winning Projects 2024
AP’s team has proudly been a part of many award-winning projects over the years. This year, we couldn’t be happier to highlight and announce the 2024 PCI Design Awards winners of the projects we have been involved with from start to finish.
But first, what are the secrets of an award-winning project?
Winning is not mad science. In fact, it is quite simple. Once an idea is generated and envisioned in the construction industry, the key is doing the following things, consistently and well:
- Communicate and share information with all parties involved.
- Collaborate with the architect(s).
- Be conscious of the timeline.
- Design assist with the pre-caster(s) and implement a solid manufacturing plan.
- Establish a planned delivery date and deliver on time.
Without further ado, here are our winners:
One Willoughby Square (1WSQ), located in Brooklyn, NY, is the 2024
Best Office Building winner and also received a Sustainable Design Award Honorable Mention. AP’s Versa-Brix® 3D in urethane was used for this project.

One Willoughby Square (pci.org)
The 2024 Best Schools K-12 Building award winner is Aetos Center for the Performing Arts in Nixa, MO. This 1150-seat theater was built using 129 precast concrete elements cast in six different forms and serves and supports the community of Nixa in many ways. AP created a custom concrete art urethane form liner for this building’s exterior.

The Shepherd Hotel, located in Clemson, SC, is the 2024 Best Hotel/Motel Building winner. AP’s Versa-Brix® Antique Classic single-use form liner was used to help create the rustic, historic look on the exterior.

Architect: Goff D’Antonio Associates, Charleston, S.C.
PCI-Certified Erector: Davis Erecting & Finishing, Inc., Greenville, S.C.
Eleven, located in Minneapolis, MN, is a Multi-Family Honorable Mention winner. AP provided the urethane Custom Limestone Pattern Form Liner for this job.
Architect: Robert A.M. Stern Architects LLP, New York, N.Y.
PCI-Certified Precast Concrete Producer and Precast Concrete Specialty Engineer: Gage Brothers, Sioux Falls, S.Dak.
PCI-Certified Erector: Amerect Inc., Newport, Minn.
Finally, the Virginia Tech Upper Quad North Residence Hall in Blacksburg, VA, was recognized as a Higher Education/University Honorable Mention. AP created the custom concrete art urethane form liner for the exterior accents for this project.
