Arcola Road Bridge
The Arcola Road Bridge was originally constructed in 1869 and rebuilt in 1931. After being deemed structurally deficient, it was closed for reconstruction in August 2013. With over 12,000 vehicles using the bridge daily, the bridge project required an aggressive construction timeline. The $5.4 million project was awarded to Allan Myers and features cast-in-place concrete panels created with single-use HIPS plastic formliners from Architectural Polymers. The architectural stain applied to the 904A ashlar stone pattern offers the visual appeal of natural stone without the high cost and long-term maintenance.
The Pennsylvania bridge spans the Perkiomen Creek connecting Collegeville and Phoenixville and is a key access point for bikers, hikers and runners connecting the Perkiomen River Trail and Schuylkill River Trail. The new three-lane Arcola Road Bridge is 267 feet long with 5-foot shoulders for bicyclists and pedestrians.
