Unity Christian High School

Construction for the new Unity Christian High School began in May 2014 with a target for completion in time for the 2015 school year. The $23 million, 147,000 square-foot project required intensive planning and communication to meet the accelerated construction schedule. GMB Architecture & Engineering worked closely with Lakewood Construction and Kerkstra Precast to develop the plans that would result in a thermally efficient, highly durable, safe and functional new school completed on time and on budget.

Precast concrete was a key component in meeting the goals of the project; not only for its physical properties, but also for its aesthetic capabilities. Precast concrete panels offer the superior fire protection and high STC ratings of traditional concrete, but with a significant cost savings and increased production schedule. The woodgrain texture featured throughout the building was created with high re-use elastomeric formliners from Architectural Polymers. The barn board finish was selected to give the concrete a modern appeal and feeling of warmth.
