2015 PCI Award Winner - Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre

The Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre represents the largest investment made in Canadian amateur sports. Jointly owned by the city of Toronto and the University of Toronto Scarborough, the project was immediately challenged by a tight budget and rigid construction schedule for the 2015 Pan Am Games. The architect, NORR, worked closely with engineers from Parson Brinckerhoff Halsall, Inc. to design the facility that would represent natural themes of southern Ontario and meet LEED Silver specifications. The precaster, RES Precast, used Versabrix M multi-use formliners from Architectural Polymers to create custom surface patterns for both the exterior facade and interior dive structures that would achieve a dramatic look while keeping the project on budget and on schedule.

The exterior facade features a sand-blasted texture with lines of exposed aggregate to create a design that depicts natural rock formations. The same pattern is reflected on the interior dive structures where precast concrete cladding covers the structural steel.

With the help of precast concrete, this award-winning facility is LEED Gold certified, surpassing the target Silver certification.
